Holiday Light Extravaganza is taking place November 17 through December 23 at the Arkansas Museum of Natural Resources in Smackover. A variety of sparkling vignettes and lighted scenes represent the sights of the winter holiday season.

“This event brings families together to use all the senses to enjoy the holiday season,” Pam Beasley, Superintendent at Arkansas Museum of Natural Resources. “They can see beautiful lighted vignettes, listen to the music, smell the cocoa, take photos and shop to their heart’s content. This is a great memory making event that families will talk about for years to come.”

Beasley said highlights of the event include light displays featuring Santa’s Rock Band and the dancing forest. In the rock band display, “Santa jams on guitar, Elmer the Elf is on the drums and Ruddy sings his heart out,” she said. “Two snowmen back up the group and dance. The dancing forest is set to music and is mesmerizing. We’ve also introduced a few new pieces such as a super cute raccoon.” Of note, the lights are only open on Friday and Saturday nights from 5:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. and there is a cost of $10 per vehicle to see them.

If checking out the lights, a visit to the museum, which is located at 3853 Smackover Highway, is a must too. The museum is an Arkansas State Park that opened in 1986. According to copy featured on their website, the museum is “situated in the midst of the historic sixty square mile Smackover Oil Field and one mile south of the oil rich town of Smackover. Although the museum represents all of Arkansas’s natural resources, it is dedicated to the pioneers of south Arkansas’s oil and brine industries.”
