Eureka Springs’ 12th annual Mardi Gras Extravaganza lineup of events
Eureka Springs knows how to let the good times roll.
The city’s 12th annual Eureka Gras Mardi Gras Extravaganza kicked off the first week of January with a gala to officially announced the Royal Court and Monarchs of the Krewe of Krazo (Ozarks spelled backwards).
The dukes and duchesses of 2017 were anointed by King Krazo XII Bill Sarad and Queen Eureka XII Tracey Lovett and celebrated with the revelry of the traditional 2nd Line. More events follow throughout January and February.
The Taste of N’Awlins will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4 at the Grand Taverne inside the Grand Central Hotel at 37 N Main Street. Hot beignets, chicory coffee, and gumbo shooters will be served, along with a cash bar – and of course the umbrella 2nd line.
The Coronation Masquerade Ball on Friday, Feb. 17, is the formal event at the Crescent Hotel at 75 Prospect, featuring a champagne buffet dinner and live music. The Crystal Dining room will be full of tables decorated in Mardi Gras style, and the king and queen along with their royal court will promenade around the ballroom and guests will enjoy champagne and a buffet dinner.
Saturday, Feb. 18 is the Light and Sound Night Parade at 6 p.m. following the usual parade route from the Carnegie Public Library, down Spring Street to the Court House on Main Street. After the parade downtown, there will be Second Line Dancing at 7 p.m. and a Black Lite Ball at 8 p.m. Venue to be determined. The Jokers Masquerade Ball takes place on Friday, Feb. 24 at 6 p.m. at the Best Western Inn of the Ozarks Convention Center at 205 W. Van Buren. There’ll be music, a mini parade, buffet with heavy hors d’oeuvres and a cash This year’s theme is “The Roaring 20s” with prizes awarded for best costume. The second Mardi Gras parade, led by the Krewe of Krazo, will roll downtown on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 2 p.m. with the same “Roaring 20s” theme. That night, the Eureka Springs Chamber of Commerce Mayor’s Ball will be held at the Basin Park Hotel with a cash bar at 6 p.m. At 7 p.m. enjoy the sounds of the Downtown Livewires. The theme is “The Great Gatsby” featuring Mayor Butch Berry and the Mardi Gras Royalty. Costumes are encouraged. Tickets may be purchased at eurekaspringschamber.com.
On Sunday, Feb. 26, the New Orleans-style Jazz Brunch takes place at the Crescent Hotel at 11:00 a.m. Reservations are required. Call 479-253-9652.
On Fat Tuesday, Feb. 28, the finale is the Saint ‘Lizbeth King Cake Ball and dinner. Dinner and music by Naturally Brass begins at 6 p.m. at the St. Elizabeth Parish Center at 232 Passion Play Road.
