Trumpeter performs Louis Armstrong tribute in El Dorado
If you are in El Dorado this Saturday, you can catch a performance by the South Arkansas Symphony. Trumpeter Byron Stripling will be performing “What a Wonderful World, a Tribute to Louis Armstrong” with the symphony, which is led by conductor Kermit Poling. The symphony is the largest performing arts organization in South Arkansas and was one of the first orchestras in Arkansas.
The show takes place January 21 at 7:30 p.m. at the El Dorado Municipal Auditorium at 100 West 8th Street. Songs Stripling will be performing include Louis Armstrong classics such as What A Wonderful World, Do You Know What It Means To Miss New Orleans, and Basin Street Blues.
According to his bio, Stripling currently is a conductor of the Columbus Jazz Orchestra. He has played with symphonies across the nation and his resume includes a stint as lead trumpeter for the Count Basie Orchestra and recording with many legends in the field of jazz including the bands of Dizzy Gillespie and The Carnegie Hall Jazz Band.
